Universal Energy is a professional company engaged in investment, construction and operation of renewable energy power plants. It has successively expanded its business in countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan. Nowadays, the company's total capacity of renewable energy power plants worldwide has been up to 3.85GW, which includes projects connected to the grid, built and to be built. It has become the largest and most competitive supplier for clean energy in Central Asia.

In Kazakhstan, the company has invested in and constructed renewable energy power projects with a total capacity of 2GW, of which 8 projects have been listed as "Key Projects of China-Kazakhstan Capacity and Investment Cooperation". And some projects are supported by SINOSURE's Export Buyer's Credit Insurance, which is the first renewable energy insurance project in China for a private enterprise to adopt Non-Recourse Finance with a "Double 95%" compensation ratio. Meanwhile, the company’s 500MW wind power project is the largest mountainous wind power in Uzbekistan, constructed with an investment of US$ 410.96 million. It pioneers the adoption of RMB-denominated electricity pricing. During COP29, Universal Energy secured the bid for Azerbaijan 100MW solar power project after competing with large enterprises such as Saudi Arabia's ACWA and the UAE's Masdar, which was the first publicly auctioned renewable energy project in Azerbaijan.

Founder, Chairman, and President of Universal Energy

A graduate of the University of Oxford, he founded Universal Energy Co., Ltd. and Wontai Power Co., Ltd. He currently serves as Chairman of Shanghai Wontai Investment Group Co., Ltd.

He holds several prominent roles, including: Council Member of the China Overseas Friendship Association, Vice President of the China Overseas Development Association, Vice President of the Shanghai International Chamber of Commerce, Vice President of the Shanghai World Trade Center Association, and Executive President of the China Chamber of International Commerce for the Private Sector.

He has been honored with awards such as CEO of the Year for Corporate Influence in China, the Shanghai Top Ten Outstanding Cases in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and was selected as one of the first experts for Shanghai's "Going Global" Expert Database.

Apr.– UE secured a new 1 GW wind power project along with a 600 MWh energy storage system in Kazakhstan. Meanwhile, five of the company's renewable energy projects in Kazakhstan, totaling 270 MW, were fully connected to the grid.
Apr.– Construction commenced on UE's 100 MW solar power project in Azerbaijan.
Oct.– The first phase of the 200 MW wind power project in Guangxi's Binyang was connected to the grid.
Dec.– Nan Yi, as the sole representative from the private sector, participated in a meeting between Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Chinese entrepreneurs.
Jun.– Universal Energy secured a new nearly 90MW wind power project in Kazakhstan. The company subsequently won another 100MW wind power project in November.
Nov.– During COP29, Universal Energy competed against 8 global renewable energy leaders and successfully won the bid for a 100MW solar power project in Azerbaijan.
Nov.– Universal Energy's 250MW Kazakh wind power project received a Letter of Intent for Export Buyer's Credit Insurance from SINOSURE, marking China's first "Dual 95%" coverage for a renewable energy power financing structure using the non-recourse model by a private enterprise.
Aug.– The Uzbekistan subsidiary was established. Universal Energy signed the nation's first 500MW wind Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with electricity priced in RMB.
Nov.– Universal Energy secured four new renewable energy projects in Kazakhstan, totaling 170MW.
Dec.– Nanning 200MW Wind Power Plant, co-invested by Universal Energy and a large central state-owned enterprise, received government approval.
Jun.– A total of 125MW/500MWh shared energy storage stations in Gansu province completed filing, marking a new breakthrough in the energy storage business.
Nov.– The company secured four new wind power projects in Kazakhstan totaling 250MW, achieving a 62.5% bid success rate, bringing its total renewable project capacity in Kazakhstan to 630MW.
May– The company signed investment framework agreements for projects including the Guazhou project. The Distributed PV Division was established, integrating equity of the Zhejiang distributed platform. The company completed 110MW in distributed business expansion.
Sep.– The company successfully secured financing disbursement for Ybrai 50MW Wind Power Project and Abay 150MW Wind Power Project, recouping a total of USD 170 million.
Jun.– Kaskelen 50MWp Solar Power Plant in Kazakhstan achieved grid connection, becoming one of the first solar projects connected to the grid locally amidst the pandemic.
Jan.– UNIBLU, a subsidiary of Universal Energy, acquired a Class-B design institute, renamed Sichuan Universal Energy Power Engineering & Design Co., Ltd., which has since been recognized as a "National High-Tech Enterprise".
Mar.– Universal Energy obtained its first overseas financing of approximately RMB 110 million from a Kazakh development bank's leasing company. In June, the company received additional non-recourse financing support from a Kazakh development bank.
Sep.– At the grid-connection ceremony for Kapchagay 100MWp Solar Power Plant, the company donated KZT 250 million (approx. RMB 4.5 million) to the Kapchagay city government for local public welfare initiatives.
Jan.– UNIBLU Engineering and Contracting Co., Ltd. was established.
Nov.– Nan Yi was invited to attend the 15th China-Kazakhstan Capacity and Investment Cooperation Dialogue and signed the investment and EPC agreement for a 100MW wind power project.
Dec.– Lingzhou 35MWp PV Poverty Alleviation Power Plant in Hebei Province achieved grid connection.
Jun.– Universal Energy signed a Strategic Investment Intent Letter in Kazakhstan, formally entering the Kazakh renewable energy market.
Aug.– Kazakh 100MWp Solar Power Project was included in the "Key Project List for China-Kazakhstan Capacity and Investment Cooperation". Currently, 8 of Universal Energy's projects in Kazakhstan are on the list.
Nov.– Zhejiang Universal Energy was established, marking the company's entry into the distributed Solar Power market.
