On October 16, Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a council with investors in the energy sector, holding dialogue with investors on topics including accelerating energy reform, enhancing investment attractiveness, and promoting renewable energy development. Nan Yi, Chairman and President of Universal Energy, was invited to attend the meeting.
President Mirziyoyev emphasized that a reliable energy supply is an important foundation for economic growth, business development, and improvement of people's livelihoods. Investment in Uzbekistan's energy sector is entering a new stage. Going forward, each project must not only expand power generation capacity but also improve supply reliability and reduce power losses. By 2030, Uzbekistan plans to add 22,000 MW of power generation capacity, with annual electricity generation exceeding 129 billion kWh and the share of renewable energy rising to 54%. To achieve these goals, power generation, transmission, and energy storage systems will be developed in a coordinated manner. Each region will assess energy capacity demand in advance and launch mature, well-prepared projects through open competitive tenders.
The meeting also proposed establishing an energy sector investors' committee to set up a regular communication mechanism on matters such as land allocation, grid connection, and technical approval, so as to further improve project implementation efficiency. At the end of the meeting, President Mirziyoyev exchanged views with investors and listened to their suggestions, stating that Uzbekistan is willing to continue mutually beneficial cooperation.
In Samarkand, Uzbekistan, Universal Energy is investing in and constructing a 500 MW wind power project. The project consists of two wind farms, Peak Wind Alpha 250 MW and Peak Wind Beta 250 MW, and is the first local project with electricity tariffs denominated in RMB and the largest mountain wind power project in the country. Once fully connected to the grid, the project will generate up to 1.75 billion kWh of electricity annually and reduce local carbon emissions by 1.75 million tons per year.
